The Music
Alex Gordon Hi-Fi is a musical project that springs from the mind of Alex Gordon. The guitar work, the songwriting, the production and arranging and the voice of Alex Gordon are what lay the groundwork for this unique and uplifting musical entity. Not merely a strummer who uses the guitar as a vehicle for his songs, Alex Gordon is first and foremost an accomplished fingerstyle guitarist. Effortlessly performs quiet acoustic bossa nova pieces, solo arrangements of popular music on baritone guitar or soloing with ferocity over a full-on boogaloo tune. Alex Gordon's guitar work gets people's attention.
Now might be a good time to explain that Alex Gordon Hi-Fi does not fit into a genre. It's a real head-scratcher but this music is not a category, a check-in-the-box, or an aisle at the music store. The songs of Alex Gordon Hi-Fi are uplifting musical gems. Blending simple, catchy melodies with finely crafted lyrics and anchoring them in a deep groove. It is the sound of one man's complete and total happiness in his work. It's the kind of music that comes from a lifetime of searching and stretching for the next melody or the next lyric.
A live performance of Alex Gordon Hi-Fi eliminates the formality of the stage and creates a casual family room experience; whether in an intimate setting or in front of thousands at an outdoor concert.
The Man
So where does this all begin? Marty McFly duckwalked across a stage with his ridiculously red guitar in the major motion picture "Back To The Future." Alex, at the ripe age of 11 saw this movie, went home and fabricated guitars from cardboard boxes taped to tennis rackets. He tirelessly lip-synced the musical catalogs of Chuck Berry, Ritchie Valens, Eddie Cochran and Buddy Holly. He also incessantly pestered his parents for a real guitar with strings.
He does get his hands on a real guitar and there begins his pursuit of giving you great music. He opts out of the high school band instead performing in a rock band namedThe Stratosphere. 20 of the 30 songs they played were Jimi Hendrix songs. They gigged in a friend's basement charging a $1 at the door for the 50 to 100 people that would show up.
Alex's musical pursuits earned him admission into the Atlanta Institute of Music. He spends a year studying and honing his craft alongside guitarists such as Matchbox 20's Kyle Cook.
In recent years Alex has had the privilege of taking lessons from jazz guitarist Wally Richardson. Wally is a former session guitarist from New York who among many others has worked with James Brown, Benny Goodman, Oliver Nelson, Erroll Garner, Mahalia Jackson, Paul Simon and was in one of the first groups to play and record music for the Sesame Street television program.
Alex has expanded his creative repertoire to include writing short films, creating an online radio program for young people, and authoring and illustrating his first book. The foundation of these projects continues to be his music.
Alex Gordon lives with his family in Crownsville, Maryland.
